have had a navioncs card in my old raymarine plotter changed the plotter to a new ray model differnt size card bought a navionics up date card had it 6 weeks still cant get it to update the new card properley very little useful response from navionics first time they kept asking if the plotter software was up to date i assured them it was and contacted them again response was a dear valued custommer we are looking at your case and that seems to be that i will keep you updated but think i will buy the raymarine package.
The LOTW map was completely wrong. Map showed 17' and we ran our 25' sailboat aground in less than 2'. Navionics fixed the error when I told them. The $5I damage to the boat was rewarded with a 4 week subscription extension. Pathetic.
Most comments seem to be about the cost and poor customer service.
Far more important is the extremely poor quality of chart data they provide.
They do not have a licence from HMSO/UKHO to use official charts, instead they cobble together sources, including user information, notice to mariners etc.
I have delivered yachts throughout the Med and UK, many boats have Navionics plotters etc, and I have used phone and tablet apps. I have photos of chart plotters showing 16+m of water, whilst looking at a row of small islands - thank goodness it was daylight at the time, at night we would have sailed straight into them. Navionics also shows (or did last time I looked) a yellow bouy in the channel past the Needles into the Solent - it does not exist. They had totally missed Eddystone lighthouse off the phone app charts until I pointed it out to them.
Navionics has 2000 updates per day as they find, or have reported to them, 2000 errors per day.
The RYA have now entered a sponsorship deal with Navionics, which I think should be stopped immediately with a warning to member NOT to use it.
I teach sailing in the Solent and I use Navionics to illustrate to students why they should NOT rely on electronic charts.
Older Raymarine chartplotters only use Navionics charts - so if you are forced to used them make sure you have up to date paper charts to refer to.
If buying electronic charts make sure they are UKHO licenced and are up to date.
Horrible experience with Navionics & the crappy customer service. Never buy their garbage. Use C-Moor instead. You will be glad U did!
up dated my card before the end of my subscription, now my card is blank.....no more data. Navionics won't help.
Often split up so you have to buy two overlapping maps.
Good product but they delete vital options from map like shallow water making it useless after 12 months and want crazy amount every season if they are not to hold you hostage.
Product itself is ok, albeit expensive. The problem is that it is virtually impossible to use the online update service, which in any case, is inordinately expensive. If it worked, I might subscribe, but I’m not buying a service that I can’t use...
Was unable to update my card on line. Bought a new one and it's not recognized by my Raymarine Asios with updated software. Last year it worked well. Don't seem to be able to find any support.
Waaaay back when Navionics was begging for customers I bought a "Lifetime" copy of Boating and Lakes. Probably ten years later I discover that my lifetime ran out as Navionics went to a yearly scheme. Greedy money hungry will never get another penny from me.
